Bar Stella

The hip cocktail bar on the Sunset side of Silver Lake’s favorite French bistro brings jungle vibes with inventive cocktails to the heart of Sunset Junction. While it may lack the warm feelings of Echo Park’s French icon Taix, Bar Stella more than makes up for it in flair and technique. The bar boasts some of the best drinks in the neighborhood and a small outdoor area makes its retro French vibes all the more authentic.

What’s the crowd like?
Hip. Creative professionals with interesting jobs titles that might not make all that much sense fill Bar Stella bringing a touch of flash and borderline sophistication to the lounge-y space, even if it comes with a bit too much nose-up, faux French.

What am I drinking?
Cocktails. While you might be tempted to go full French bistro with a glass of wine, Bar Stella was one of the first places along this Sunset strip to offer a real cocktail program. They continue to deliver some of the most intriguing in the area, which means visitors should feel free to try something modern like the Sophia, their take on the Mezcal negroni, or go with one of the classics such as a Corpse Reviver No 2 or Antique Ferrari.

Is there anything to eat?
Not in the bar. If you want food, there’s a smaller bar on the Sanborn side (that’s maybe even better… if you’re looking to sit down) that serves up the whole menu.

When should I get here?
Bar Stella is best late, when the patrons are toasted and cigarette smoke pours through the doors… À Paris.

Why am I here?
You’re here because you’re feeling hip, cool, or something of the like and to drink good cocktails. Possibly to brag about your new promotion or book release, but like in an early noughties Strokes sort of way.
