Those who regularly drive along the backside of Silver Lake where Rowena and Glendale merge probably recognize Michelangelo Ristorante from its sign that basically tells you it’s open for every meal. While the restaurant is probably best known for delivering the kind of old school Italian fare that warms orderers with the feelings of their favorite neighborhood Italian space from back home, the space also offers a full bar. Note, this isn’t a spot for fussy drinks with too many ingredients, but if you’re looking for a classic cocktail accompanied by old school, red sauce Italian fare, this is the place.

What’s the crowd like?
Family oriented and usually not too busy. You’ll mostly find families at Michelangelo, which matches their decent prices and laid back atmosphere. The staff is friendly and helpful and there’s a good chance that your waiter will be making your drink, so good natured kindness might lead to a heavier pour.
What am I drinking?
Martini, Manhattan, or Italian wine. Extra points if you end up with the -Tony menu.
Is there anything to eat?
Yes. Michelangelo–as noted above–basically serves every meal, but you’re probably here for an Italian dinner classic. The calamari griglia (grilled) might be the best in Los Angeles, while the burrata di buffala and verdure alla griglia are also great starters. The house special is the pappardelle alla domenica, but if you’re feeling more meat oriented don’t be afraid to order the veal Fiorentina.
When should I get here?
Dinner. As noted above, Michelangelo’s is a classic red sauce joint, so look to go for dinner, especially on a warm night when the plethora of outdoor space makes for the ideal al fresco meal.
Why am I here?
Classic Italian fare, decent prices, and good nature of the staff, which makes it basically a garden of Eden and a lot more fun than some of the other options located along the same stretch.
