Heaven Hill Distillery has launched its first Elijah Craig barrel proof whiskey of 2023, A123. Each batch of Barrel Proof contains an uncut selection of 12-year-old bourbon bottled straight from the barrel. As a result, each batch varies by proof.
The A123 release is the 31st release in the brand’s Barrel Proof series, dating back to 2013. Traditionally, three bottlings are released per year, with the first bottle beginning with an “A,” the second with a “B,” and so on. The first digit of the name, meanwhile, represents the month the whiskey was released, while the last two digits account for the year.
The Elijah Craig A123 features a mashbill of 78% corn, 12% malted barley, and 10% rye. On the nose, it offers caramel with toasted oak and fruit notes of apple and orange. The palate delivers rich vanilla, caramel, and butterscotch along with spices of black pepper and cinnamon at the back of the palate. The finish is nicely layered showcasing all flavors, and fades slowly then lingers as it cools.
The whiskey is available for $69.99 per bottle. For more information, head over to the brand’s official website.
Earlier this month, Heaven Hill’s Larceny label introduced its first Batch Proof release of 2023.
