A Secret Venetian Drinks Paradise Just Opened In NYC’s West Village, Venice Bar

|

The creators behind hit West Village restaurant Saint Theo’s (Developer Robert Goldman and Grand Tour Hospitality’s Kyle Hotchkiss Carone) have opened a secret venetian drinks paradise aptly named Venice Bar. It can be found behind a velvet curtain inside the New York eatery.

Saint Theo’s took its inspiration from the idea of cicchetti (Venetian small snacks) with cocktails in a classic Venetian lounge. Now, both spaces look to bring guests deeper into the revelry of Veneto. The 20-seat bar is filled with crimson-colored banquets, vintage Pirelli calendars and Murano sconces, and an oversized Maitland Smith mirror.

Chef Ashley Rath will serve up traditional cicchetti to diners, and the menu will include Polpette (breaded beef meatballs with fig jus), Tramezzino (white-bread sandwich with fried eggplant & taleggio), Funghi Fritti (beech and royal trumpet mushrooms with anchovy emulsion), Baccalà Mantecato (hand-creamed cod), and Sarde In Saor (fried sardines, onion, raisins, pine nuts).

Head bartender Kyle Sheridan leads the beverage program, which is dedicated to the art of both the Italian aperitivo and digestivo, featuring wine and cocktails as well as a collection of Amari and vermouth. Expected negroni and spritz to be served alongside new takes on classics like a “Death in Venice” made with mezcal.

Venice Bar is open daily from 5 pm to 12 am. For more information or to make reservations, visit Saint Theo’s official website or Resy.

If you’re more of a martini lover, a new Gramercy Park bar, Hawksmoor New York, is currently serving the world’s coldest martini. The drink is served at a piercing ‑12 degrees Celsius.

Hawksmoor New York is an elevated steak house and the first US-based location of the famed London “meateater’s paradise.” The original was founded in 2006 and now the brand is made up of 10 restaurants.
