Only 50 Bottles Of This $2,800 Rum Will Be Available In The US

Andrés Brugal rum

Rum is challenging the luxury spirits market once dominated by whisky and, well, whiskey. The latest example comes via Brugal rum, which is paying homage to its founder, Andrés, with the release of a limited edition expression priced at $2,800.

Andrés Brugal founded his namesake rum brand in 1888 in the Dominican Republic. The new rum pays homage to the founder’s “pioneering spirit of exploration and generations of maestros.”

Made by blending two double-aged reserve rums with a selection of first-fill single bourbon and oloroso Sherry casks, Andrés Brugal aromas roasted coffee beans, dulce de leche fudge, and Dominican rum cake on the nose. The palate delivers oak, vanilla bean, and sweet caramel flan, alongside ripe berries, black peppercorns and sweet cloves.

“Quintessentially Dominican flavours combine to create an extraordinary liquid of astounding character that pushes the boundaries of discovery,” said master distiller Jassil Villanueva Quintana. “With a touch of sweetness on the nose, and a well-rounded, long-lasting mouthfeel, this full-bodied rum is a true celebration of the distinctive flavours of Puerto Plata.

“This limited edition bottling is a journey that started over a century ago. Andrés Brugal combines special single cask family reserves and our signature double-ageing technique to tell a dual story of my family’s legacy of rum making, as well as my own as maestra ronera.”

The new release arrives in a hand-blown crystal decanter and display cabinet inspired by the traveling cases earlier maestros used in their voyages.

Just 460 bottles of Andrés Brugal rum will be available globally, with just 50 bottles set to be available in the US and 30 in the UK.
