Arbikie Launches 1794 Highland Rye Whisky

Arbikie 1794 Highland Rye Whisky

Arbikie Distillery has announced the launch of its 1794 Highland Rye Whisky. This is the third edition of the brand’s Highland Rye series, which celebrates the Scotttish distiller’s over two centuries of history on the east coast of Scotland.

The 2020 edition of Arbikie 1794 Highland Rye Whisky combines the use of Rye with charred American oak, matured in virgin oak casks to create a whisky “with a nose of fresh cloves, nutmeg, Christmas cake spices, creamy butterscotch and a taste of cinnamon and a spicy burst tempered by sweet muscovado sugar and fresh honey,” according to the distillery.

Upon its first release in 2018, Highland Rye became the first Rye Whisky to be produced in Scotland for over 100 years. Other Scotch distilleries, including Bruichladdich and InchDairnie, have since followed in Arbikie’s footsteps and are preparing to release Rye whiskies of their own in the near future.

“We are delighted with the progress we have made with our Highland Rye Whisky,” said Arbikie Distillery co-founder and export director Iain Stirling. “In a few years, from our limited-edition launch, to expanding into major whisky markets such as Canada and the US, to now launching our signature 1794 edition, it’s a very exciting time at Arbikie as we look forward to further expansion in the Middle East and Asia.”

The Stirling family has been farming in Scotland for more than 400 years and brothers Iain, John, Sandy and David have attempted to continue the family’s role as custodians of the land in their field-to-bottle distilling operation.

Back in August, Arbikie launched its carbon negative, pea based Nadar Vodka. Nadar is Gaelic for ‘nature’ and is the second in the Scottish distillery’s line of climate positive spirits. Earlier in the year, they released Nadar Gin.

Arbikie 1794 Highland Rye can be purchased via the distillery’s official web store, for the price of £130.00 ($174 USD).
