Benromach Unveils Cara Gold Whisky

Benromach Cara Gold

Benromach has launched a new limited edition single malt whisky, Benromach Cara Gold. The Speyside distillery will only make 6,000 bottles of the Scotch available.

Benromach Cara Gold marks the first time the distillery has used Cara Gold malted barley, a low color roasted caramel malt more commonly found in breweries which produces rich fruity and toffee flavors. The distillery combined this with its standard lightly peated malt to create an expression that delivers a twist on the subtle smokiness the brand is known for.

Laid down in 2010, the expression was bottled in 2022. It has been matured exclusively in first-fill bourbon barrels, is natural in colour and non-chill filtered. On the nose, it offers passionfruit, lychee, and lime aromas which are complemented by a hint of malted biscuit. The palate features smooth, sweet flavors of pineapple, apricot, and a subtle pepperiness that lead to a vibrant, fruity, and sweet smoke finish.

“We love to get creative with our small batch vintage expressions and our Contrasts Range allows us to do this,” said Keith Cruickshank, Distillery Manager at Benromach. “Unlike any of our other expressions, we have used Cara Gold malt – this is a type of malted barley you would usually find in a brewery rather than a distillery and it has produced a beautiful and unique single malt. But, in true Benromach style, this whisky was made by hand for genuine character using the skills, expertise and senses of our small team of distillers.”

Benromach Cara Gold is priced at £49.99 and available via the Benromach website as well as selected retailers worldwide.

Last year, Benromach Distillery unveiled the first annual batch release of its 40 Years Old single malt Scotch. That same month, it launched a second Sherry cask-matured Peat Smoke whisky.
