Bimber Explores London’s West End Stations With Fourth Spirit of the Underground Collection

Over the last few months, English whisky makers Bimber distillery crawled back into the Tube tunnels to put together Release No.4 in its Spirit of the Underground collection. The latest editions in the series showcase our new stations located in the West End of London: Covent Garden, Green Park, Leicester Square and Piccadilly Circus.

The Bimber Spirit of the Underground Collection Release No.4 whiskies all focus on full-term maturations that have been bottled at natural cask strength and without filtration.

Bottled at 59.2% ABV and limited to just 321 bottles, the Covent Garden release matured in oloroso Sherry casks. It offers aromas of warmed fudge cake served alongside a bowl of freshly picked raspberries.

Bottled at 59.4% ABV and limited to just 285 bottles, the Green Park bottling fully matured in Muscatel Sherry casks. The palate boasts a combination of orchard and stone fruits, which develop into orange jelly, pineapple chunks, chocolate, and vanilla notes.

Released at 60.3% ABV and limited to 271 bottles, the Leicester Square whisky aged in Virgin American oak. which has a long finish with residual fruits joined by tingly pepper and root ginger.

Limited to just 314 bottles and bottled at 62.1% ABV, the Piccadilly Circus release features liquid fully matured in Pedro Ximénez Sherry casks. It is rich and fulsome on the palate, with notes of fruit-packed Christmas cake, gooey toffee, coffee grounds, and dark chocolate.

“We’re delighted to unveil the next release in The Spirit of the Underground Collection,” commented Bimber’s director of marketing and communications Matt McKay. “For Release No.4, we’ve aligned the four single cask whiskies with four iconic Underground stations, which all sit alongside each other on London’s Piccadilly line – the adjacency reflecting the full-term maturation and shared intensities that these exceptional casks all showcase.”

The entire collection totals 44 individual releases and pairs with Transport for London’s 160th anniversary of the opening of the Tube this month.

“We are delighted to once again see Bimber Distillery use our unique brand and heritage in such a creative way, especially as we celebrate the 160th anniversary of London’s first Tube service this January,” said Ellen Sankey, brand licensing manager at TfL. Collaborations like this show just how innovatively our designs can be used to bring new ideas and our history together for customers across the world.”

Release No.4 in the collection will be available directly from Bimber Distillery’s Spirit of the Underground website from Monday, January 23 to Friday, January 27 via a ballot, and be priced at £125 (US$155) per bottle.
