BOP Porto Negroni

Cozied into the ground floor of an office building in Porto’s Baixa neighborhood, BOP provides hot coffee, American-inspired eats, and strong cocktails to go along with its impressive record collection. The whole thing feels a bit like a hip 70s/80s diner, making it a perfect addition to the flourishing area.

The wood bar is lined with red-cushioned stools and black metal chairs surround wood tables. A dense record collection sits on the other side of the bar, where drinks and coffee are poured. A massive list of albums includes the likes of Miles Davis, The Beatles, Serge Gainsbourg, as well as a variety of Portuguese artists.

BOP opens early and closes late, so whether you’re looking for a lunchtime pick me up or light night grease to right the ship, it’s the right place to go. Menu items include burgers and sandwiches that lean American as a sloppy Joe and a monte cristo. Breakfast is served all day, which means it’s one of the few places where you can get eggs any time, and there is also a bagel with lox, which we very much appreciate.

When it comes to drinks, BOP has two beers on draft, both Portuguese, as well as a selection of beers by the bottle from around the globe. Wines are available by the glass or by the bottle for more than reasonable prices, and there are also two Sangrias. But if you ask us, it’s the cocktail section of the menu that really shines.

While visitors won’t find anything groundbreaking when it comes to alcoholic concoctions, they will be pleased by the thought and consideration that goes into the preparation of each beverage. Portugal loves gin as much, if not more, than neighboring Spain does, so order yourself a Negroni, and you might find yourself growing a whole new appreciation for the combination of Gin, Campari, and Sweet Vermouth.

BOP delivers everything one could want from an American-style diner. The music is good, the food greasy, and the cocktails top notch. If you’re looking for a laid back atmosphere with good tunes to enjoy a well-made drink, this is the spot.
