Bunnahabhain has teamed up with The Whisky Exchange to launch a 32-Year-Old single cask from 1990. The whisky, which is exclusively available on British spirits selling website The Whisky Exchange, has been matured in a single oloroso sherry butt.
Bottled in 2023 at 54.8% ABV, the oloroso sherry butt imparted layers of sweet spices, sticky caramel, and nutty chocolate on the Bunnahabhain 1990, which mingle with the brand’s famed fruity and malty character.
On the nose, the bottling offers sultanas, raisins, candied orange peel, baked almonds, and treacle, with hints of forest floor and tobacco leaf. The palate delivers more candied peel, rum-soaked dried fruits, a hint of orange-blossom honey, old leather armchairs, and incense spice, with sweet, rich and treacly fruit behind. The finish is described as “a masterclass in rancio, and “seems to go on forever.”
Just 537 bottles of the Bunnahabhain 1990 have been produced, each retailing on The Whisky Exchange for £2,000 ($2,500 USD). For more information or to purchase, head over to the product page.
In April, Bunnahabhain unveiled a trio of new expressions to celebrate Fèis Ìle 2023, Islay’s annual whisky and music festival. The new releases include Canasta Cask Matured, 1998 Manzanilla Cask Finish, and 17-year-old Triple Cask Moine.
