Islay distillery Bunnahabhain is bringing two of its oldest whiskies to the United States, the 30 Year and the 40 Year
Bunnahabhain has launched its 30-year-old and 40-year-old single malt whiskeys in the United States. Aged in sherry casks, the 30-year-old and 40-year-old expressions look to reflect the Islay distillery’s unpeated style and signature coastal influences.
“Our 30- and 40-year-old whiskies are a tribute to Bunnahabhain’s dedication to quality and patience,” says Juliann Fernandez, master distiller at Bunnahabhain. “These releases have been nurtured with the utmost care, allowing the complex layers of flavor to develop over time. From the rich sherry notes to the coastal breeze woven into every drop, these whiskies invite true connoisseurs to experience the essence of Islay at its finest.”
Bunnahabhain 30 Year Whisky
(46.3% ALC/VOL, 92.6 Proof, 700 ML) – MSRP $999.99
Bunnahabhain 30 Year was distilled in small batches and matured exclusively in ex-Sherry casks in coastal warehouses. As the newest member of the Bunnahabhain core range, this first release of a three decade old Scotch is one of the distilleries’ oldest single malts. On the nose, the whisky offers aromas of butterscotch, beeswax, and sweet sherry. The palate delivers strawberries and cream, which gradually develop into honey nut cereals and an abundance of rich toffee. The finish features a gentle aftertaste of stewed berries and ginger, with a prolonged and undulating combination of spiced oak and salted caramel.
Bunnahabhain 40 Year Whisky
(41.9% ALC/VOL, 83.8 Proof, 700 ML) – MSRP $3,785.99
Bunnahabhain 40 Year matured for four decades in a warehouse by the sea in casks that were all but forgotten until thee blending team discovered them while reviewing the warehouse ledgers. Sourced from the legendary wines and spirits merchant J.G Turney, these casks have been home to this whisky for the past four decades. On the nose, the whiskey delivers hints of tropical fruits, banana, berries, creamy toffee, vanilla, rich nuttiness, and delicate sweet oak. The palate finds sweet malt, creamy caramel, vanilla, creamy berries, with hints of toasted nuts, tropical fruit, banana, and pineapple. The finish is long, sweet, and fruity.
A finite number of bottles of both the 30- and 40-year-old releases will be available at select U.S. retailers. For more information, head over to the brand’s official website.
Last fall, Bunnahabhain teamed up with The Whisky Exchange to launch a 32-Year-Old single cask from 1990.
