Château Léoube has released a Mediterranean gin made with botanicals sourced from the organic Provence wine estate. Dubbed Mediterranean Gin by Leoube, the spirit was at the Daylesford Harvest Festival earlier this month.
Mediterranean Gin by Leoube is made with seven botanicals: juniper, olives, almond, orange, fennel, rosemary and mandarin. Each botanical is distilled in separate copper stills using a grape base alcohol from Château Léoube. Bottled at 41.5% ABV, the gin aims to capture the signature scents of the south of France and is made in partnership with a local distillery.
On the nose, the gin is elegant, fruity and expressive, beginning with soft sweet citrus fruit and citrus leaves complemented by a heady bouquet of aromatic gin spices. The palate is smooth and complex with discreet notes of anise, pepper and rosemary on the finish.
Léoube suggests enjoying the gin neat, on the rocks, or in a cocktail. The Château’s signature serve features 50ml of the gin, a bar spoon of crushed pink peppercorns, a spoon of dried orange pieces, and a spoon of Léoube olive oil.

In other French gin news, Citadelle unveiled the latest permanent addition to its portfolio, Citadelle Jardin d’été. Inspired by a French garden cultivated by Debbie Gabriel, wife of Citadelle Founder Alexandre Gabriel, Jardin d’été is made with melon flesh, whole lemon, yuzu zest and more orange peel, in addition to the 19 botanicals used to make Citadelle Original.
In July, Independent spirit producer Maison Villevert added a new spirit to its June by G’Vine collection of fruit gins – an inviting drink of Royal Pear and Cardamom. Royal Pear & Cardamom marks the second addition to June by G’Vine, a collection of spirits that offers Maison Villevert’s G’Vine Floraison gin, infused with natural aromas of aromatics and fresh fruits.
