The largest single vineyard estate in Tokaji, Disznókő, has created three collections of Hungarian sweet wines to give wine lovers the opportunity to discover a variety of Tokaji Aszú wines. Each collection comes with three wines.
The first, called Discovery of the Great Tokaji, is a collection of three Tokaji Aszú styles from different, highly-rated vintages. It contains one bottle of Disznókő Tokaji Aszú 5 Puttonyos 2013, one bottle of Disznókő Tokaji Aszú 6 Puttonyos 2015, and one bottle of Disznókő Tokaji Aszúeszencia 2005.
The other two collections, called Vertical and Mad about Kapi, are available internationally from agents and the vineyard itself.
The second collection is known as Vertical and contains one bottle of Disznókő Tokaji Aszú 5 Puttonyos 2017, one bottle of Disznókő Tokaji Aszú 5 Puttonyos 2016, and one bottle of Disznókő Tokaji Aszú 5 Puttonyos 2015.
The third collection has been dubbed Mad about Kapi and contains one bottle of Disznókő Kapi Vineyard Tokaji Aszú 6 Puttonyos 2005, one bottle of Disznókő Kapi Vineyard Tokaji Aszú 6 Puttonyos 2011, and one bottle of Disznókő Kapi Vineyard Tokaji Aszú 6 Puttonyos 2015.
Kapi Disznókő is an extremely rare wine made from a single plot of land called Kapi, located in the upper part of the southern slopes of Disznókő. It is only made in years when the Kapi Vineyard fully expresses its distinctive personality and solely with the most perfect Furmint aszú berries from this parcel. Each bottle is numbered and just four vintages have been produced to date.
Discovery of the Great Tokaji is set to be released this month and will cost £150 in the UK, where it will shortly be available via agents Gonzalez Byass UK. The other two collections are set to be released internationally later this year.
In September, Royal Tokaji hailed its 2017 Aszú wines as one of the best vintages in the history of the brand. The Hungarian company says it’s on par with 1993, 1999, 2000, 2003, and 2008.
