Eden Mill 2019 Release Single Malt goes to show that the brand can make more than just really, really good Gin–seriously, try the Gins, maybe with a splash grapefruit. The 2019 is only the second expression from the St. Andrews-located distillery and it continues what is expected to be an annual release from the brand.
Eden Mill collaborated with local Fife artist Hilke MacIntyre to create the art piece for the single malt presentation box, which depicts the famous landmarks of the distillery’s home, St Andrews. Eden Mill Head Distiller, Scott Ferguson, incorporated a selection of Oloroso hogsheads, Pedro Ximenez hogsheads, American bourbon barrels, with a cask of chocolate malt spirit and crystal malt spirit to craft the 2019 Release Single Malt.
On the nose, drinkers will find Sherry forward flavours as well as cherry sweetness with notes of vanilla fudge and hints of spiciness throughout, according to the distillery. The palate finds a balance of sweet and spice along with notes of toasted fruits. In the mid-palate, the sweet and fruit remains with hints of cocoa and caramelised biscuits underneath. The end has a sweet malty ness. Biscuit sweetness and sherry flavours fade to a spicy peppery character on the finish, which in turn develops with an aromatic cassia spice.
This stuff is pretty rare as the distillery only produced 3,000 70cl bottles of the Single Malt.
When it comes to Whisky, Eden Mill also produces a number of numbered hip flasks. The distillery is best known for their variety of Gins, which include everything from the Original and Love (Pink) expressions to Oak and a botanically rich Golf Gin, as well as a number of limited edition offerings. They also have Ready To Drink cocktails if that is more your drift.
