If you enjoy port and like getting your hands on items of incredible beauty – here’s some news just for you. Famous port brand, Taylor’s has collaborated with Glencairn Crystal to make a bespoke, special release decanter.
The release, Taylor’s 1896 Single Harvest Tawny Port is the latest in a sequence of rare and fine vintages for which the Taylor, Fladgate and Yeatman port house is renowned. It was produced as the result of one of the best harvests of the 19th century – drawn from reserves of cask-aged ports and matured in the company’s Vila Nova de Gaia cellars.
Glencairn were invited to create a befitting decanter for the piece – the third such project the company has collaborated with Taylors following the releases of the rare 1855 Scion Port in 2010 and Taylor’s 1863 Single Harvest Port in 2014.
To accompany the 1896 Single Harvest Port decanter – which features extra decoration to celebrate the rarity of the liquid – the craftspeople at Glencairn also designed an elegant seven-sided stopper for the decanter, each side of which is engraved.
The decanter is presented in a cherrywood case, with each box containing a certificate signed by Taylor’s managing director Adrian Bridge. A total of 1,700 units have been produced and will be available in specialist retailers.
Speaking on the drink and decanter, Scott Davidson, new product development director at Glencairn, who has worked across all three of the Taylor’s releases, said:
“We are very proud to have been part of this series of rare releases with Taylor’s and to have had the opportunity to develop and decorate such special decanters to house these incredibly prestigious wines, especially here in Scotland.”
