Made from a blend of some of the oldest Johnnie Walker casks, Aged 52 Years celebrates a variety of the brand’s closed distilleries.
Johnnie Walker has unveiled Aged 52 Years. The half century-plus old whisky contains liquids from six rare Highland malt whiskies and two Lowland grain whiskies.
Johnnie Walker Aged 52 Years honors founder John Walker and his son Alexander Walker. It’s made from whiskies that reached at least the same age – 52 – as both whisky masters and includes single grain whiskies from Cambus (closed in 1993) and Carsebridge (closed in 1983); liquid from the now shuttered Glenury Royal, Glenlochy, and Glen Albyn; and, finally, the still-open Dalwhinnie, Blair Atholand, and Brora, which reopened a few years back.
The Lowland whiskies deliver notes of vanilla, butterscotch, and spice, alongside hints of tea leaves and menthol. The Highland single malts contribute notes of berries, cured meat, cacao, blue cheese, and even subtle smoke as well as a variety of other flavors to the final bottling.
“Alongside my small team of whisky experts, we hand-selected some of our oldest and most precious casks of Highland single malt and Lowland single grain whiskies for my first ultra-rare release as master blender,” says Dr Emma Walker, Johnnie Walker master blender. “With this deceptively simple cask combination, our intention was to create a new, masterful blend in homage to our founders’ achievements. The rare aromas, flavours, and character in this blend, combined with their shared age and small number, make this super-limited edition a testament to the art of whisky blending.”
Bottled at 41.2% ABV and limited to just 200 bottles, Johnnie Walker Aged 52 Years is priced at £23,500 ($25,000 USD). It can be purchased through Diageo private client teams and selected luxury retail outlets. For more information, head over to the brand’s official website.
In October, Johnnie Walker partnered with luxury skiwear brand Perfect Moment and shareholder Priyanka Chopra Jonas to launch limited-edition Blue Label Ice Chalet whisky.
