In what has become somewhat of an annual tradition, Johnnie Walker Blue Label has teamed up with Shanghai-based designer Angel Chen to create limited-edition Lunar New Year bottling for the Year of the Rabbit.
The design for the Johnnie Walker Blue Year of the Rabbit features a dynamic, modern interpretation of 2023’s Zodiac animal. Symbolizing mercy, elegance, and beauty, the rabbit signifies longevity in traditional Asian culture and as an echo of the Johnnie Walker motto, Keep Walking, prancing rabbits are captured bounding amongst mountainous peaks. Chen, who studied fashion in the prestigious Central Saint Martin College of Art (London), says: “There’s a defiant energy to my illustrations which bring to life the vibrant spirit of the rabbit as it leaps across the design, symbolising how we need to keep moving forward, spreading goodness throughout the year to come.”
Angel sought inspiration for her designs from the craft that Johnnie Walker Master Blender Emma Walker and her team bring to Johnnie Walker Blue Label.
On the nose, the Scotch is mellow and rounded with a dry smokiness that mingles with raisin sweetness. A first sip reveals a velvety mouthfeel, as rolling waves of rich spice give way to a deep surge of vanilla sweetness and honey that lead to caramel and hazelnuts coursing through dark chocolate. The finish is uniquely long and luxurious with smoke, pepper, and a hint of spice.
Bottled at 40%, Johnnie Walker Blue Year of the Rabbit is priced at $275. In 2021, Johnnie Walker released a limited-edition bottle to celebrate the Year of the Ox.
In September, Johnnie Walker unveiled the fifth bottling in its iconic Ghost and Rare series, Johnnie Walker Blue Label Ghost and Rare Port Dundas Master Set.
