Jura has unveiled a Rum Cask Finish single malt Scotch whisky. The new offering from the Whyte & Mackay-owned brand is the third expression in the Jura Cask Editions range, following a Sherry cask-finished bottling, known as the Winter Edition, and a red wine cask-finished single malt.
Bottled at 40% ABV, the new Jura whisky was originally matured in American white oak ex-Bourbon barrels, before being finished in Caribbean rum casks. The Cask Editions series showcases the connection between the land and spirit, bringing together the distinctive regional flavors of selected European wine cases to the distillery’s island malt. Earlier this year, Jura unveiled the first expression in the range, Jura Red Wine Cask.
On the nose, it offers notes of guava and coconut, sugar-coated almonds, apricots and a touch of citrus. The palate features vanilla and fudge, with hints of mango, banana and guava.
“Our Jura Cask Editions have been created to showcase cask types in partnership with the Jura distillery character,” said Gregg Glass, whisky maker and blender at Whyte & Mackay. “The flavours offer interesting interpretations of our classic style, making them ideal for those looking to explore new flavours and finishes. With Jura Rum Cask Finish, the taste experience has been enhanced through the finish to create a beautifully tropical and fruity result. In making this release, we wanted to share a single malt that’s easy drinking and great value with compelling character.”
The whisky should be served mixed in a fruit punch or with ginger beer, and the distillery suggests consuming it alongside grilled or glazed pineapple, or with a traditional Caribbean dish such as jerk chicken.
Jura Rum Cask Finish will initially be made available in the United Kingdom for the price of £45 ($62 USD) per one-litre bottle and can be purchased at Tesco stores.
