The Karl Lagerfeld hotel tower as well as its Portuguese restaurant Mesa and the Statement Bar have opened. Part of Grand Lisboa Palace Resort Macau, the property is the last hospitality project by fashion legend.
The Karl Lagerfeld hotel tower at Grand Lisboa Palace Resort Macau aims to provide an “immersive journey into the ethos, vision and distinctive aesthetics” of the fashion icon. As well as rooms and suites, Lagerfeld also designed his own food and beverage outlets, namely the contemporary Portuguese restaurant Mesa and the Statement Bar.
Meaning “Table” in Portuguese, Mesa offers contemporary Portuguese cuisine inspired by the country’s culinary tradition of “sharing food and drinks,” says the hotel. The restaurant’s interior infuses contemporary design with oriental inspiration. The LED ceiling in the main dining area displays natural scenery, reminiscent of the windowed ceiling and skylight in Karl Lagerfeld’s studio in Paris.
At the Statement cocktail bar, designed to evoke the image of a traditional Chinese bird cage, visitors can enjoy vibrant cocktails and one of the region’s largest collections of Portuguese wine. The bar is captained by an in-house Master Mixologist who has designed a bespoke cocktail menu inspired by Macau’s history and landmarks, such as Saint Paul’s Ruins, A-Ma Temple and Taipa Houses, that pairs with petiscos, small bites to have while drinking.
While Lagerfeld is best known for his contribution to fashion, he launched a hospitality line in 2016, with projects that included Hôtel de Crillon in Paris and Sofitel So Singapore. Lagerfeld passed away in 2019.
For more information or to make a reservation, head over to Mesa’s official website.
Wine fans may also want to check out Casa Don Alfonso and Robuchon Au Dôme–both located on the Grand Lisboa Palace Resort Macau property–which according to Wine Spectator boast some of the world’s best wine lists.
