Kilchoman Launches 100% Islay 13th Edition

Kilchoman 100% Islay 13th Edition

Kilchoman has unveiled the 13th Edition of its 100% Islay whisky. Like the dozen bottlings in the series that came before, the Scotch was distilled from barley grown on the farm at the distillery.

The Kilchoman 100% Islay 13th Edition was made from Publican barley grown on the farm in 2012, 2013 and 2014, which was then matured for a minimum of 8 years in 44 bourbon barrels. This year’s liquid is lightly peated, arriving at 20 PPM. The 12th Edition was matured in 29 bourbon barrels and 6 oloroso sherry butts for a minimum of 8 years.

“The 13th Edition is the first release since 2019 where I have opted for solely bourbon barrels,” said Anthony Wills, Kilchoman Founder. “The 44 bourbon barrels that I selected are predominantly fresh casks, this gives the whisky lovely layers of buttery vanilla and caramel flavours which pair beautifully with the citrus sweetness of our spirit.”

On the nose, the whisky offers aromas of malt loaf, toffee apple, banana bread, citrus, lavender, pear drops, sea salt, and hints of peat smoke. The palate delivers fresh vanilla and fragrant peat smoke with caramel, barley blossom, sultanas, and hints of spicy oak tannins. The finish features a silky viscosity with fresh crumpets, butter, and honey.

Bottled at 50% ABV, just 13,000 bottles of the 13th Edition will be made available. For more information, head over to the brand’s official website.

In May, Kilchoman unveiled two new expressions, Fino Sherry Cask Matured and Cognac Cask Matured. Both are available from Kilchoman stockists around the globe.
