Lakes Distillery Unveils Bal Masque Whisky

Lakes Distillery Bal Masque

The Lakes Distillery has expanded its Whiskymaker’s Editions range with the launch of Bal Masque, a limited edition single malt matured in French oak casks. The new whisky is a the fourth bottling in the series.

The Lakes Distillery Bal Masque aims to highlight the English distillery’s sense of adventure. To create a “sense of intrigue and seduction,” the distillery used only French oak to mature the whisky. “Working with French oak for primary maturation can be tricky in comparison to using American and Spanish oak,” noted the brand. “When used exclusively, the abundance of tannins and wood extractives can create a beautifully seductive and mysterious character.”

The English whisky offers an abundance of forbidden orchard fruits that entwine on the tongue with sweet sensory spices, raisins, vanilla and nutmeg, followed by subtle background notes of toasted almonds and incense.

Bottled at 54% ABV, Lakes Distillery The Whiskymaker’s Editions Bal Masque is available from the distillery’s website and across the UK for £70 ($97 USD).

In July, The Lakes Distillery unveiled Miramar, the third bottling in its Whiskymaker’s Editions series.

In June, the distillery added to its Whiskymaker’s Editions series, with a patisserie-influenced single malt. The drink has been created exclusively for renowned luxury retailer Harvey Nichols. Inspired by the sensory experience of a Parisian ‘childhood cake shop excursion’, the new expression is called Le Goûter.

In April, The Lakes Distillery unveiled the fourth release in its Whiskymaker’s Reserve series –  a whisky matured in red wine and Sherry casks. Launched in September 2019, the limited edition Whiskymaker’s Reserve series showcases the English distillery’s Sherry-led style.
