Laphroaig Launches 2021 Edition Of 10 and 25 Year Old Cask Strength Whiskies

Laphroaig 2021 Cask Strength Editions Batch 13, 10 Year Old And 25 Year Old

Laphroaig has unveiled the 2021 editions of its 10-year-old and 25-year-old cask strength single malts. Part of batch 13, both whiskies have matured in ex-Bourbon casks.

Bottled at 57.9% ABV, the Laphroaig 10 Year Old Cask Strength 2021 offers gentle vanilla and barbecue top notes. On the nose, the Scotch features manuka honey and aromas of peat and smoke. The palate is sweet and spicy showcasing burnt marshmallow, sea salt toffee, cinnamon stroopwafels and white pepper finishing in waves of rich Islay peat smoke. The finish features floral with spicy oak tannins and sea salt.

Bottled at 51.9% ABV, the Laphroaig 25 Year Old Cask Strength 2021 is described as “subtle and elegant” with notes of acacia honey, pear drops, white pepper, thyme and Islay seaweed on the nose. The palate delivers hints of heather honey, light wood smoke, lime, salt and black pepper marinade.

The 10 Year Old is priced at £77 (US$107) per 700ml bottle, while the 25 Year Old costs £430 (US$599) per 700ml bottle. The single malts are available to buy from specialist whisky stores during August and soon after on Laphroaig’s website.

Laphroaig has unveiled its 2021 Cáirdeas bottling. This year’s edition of the annually released whisky was finished in a Pedro Ximénez cask. It is triple matured in American oak ex-Bourbon barrels, followed by quarter casks and finally in European oak hogsheads containing PX sherry.

In March, Laphroaig added a 10 Years Old Sherry Oak whisky to its core range. It was matured in refill oloroso Sherry and American oak ex-Bourbon casks, before finishing for 12 to 18 months in European oak oloroso Sherry casks. The new offering follows a recent trend from the Islay distillery started by the October launch of the Ian Hunter Story Book Two 30 Year Old Whisky, which has aged for three decades in Spanish Oak Oloroso Sherry casks.
