Otterbeck Distillery Debuts Captain Sir Tom’s Gin

Otterbeck Distillery Captain Sir Tom's Gin

Otterbeck Distillery has partnered with former British army officer Thomas Moore to create Captain Sir Tom’s Gin. Moore recently gained notoriety for his raising money for NHS Charities Together, a group of charities supporting staff, volunteers and patients in the British National Health Service (NHS), in the run up to his 100th birthday in April during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Dubbed “Tom’s 100th Birthday Walk For The NHS,” Moore. He set out to walk 100 laps of his garden with the aim of raising £1,000 ($1,336 USD) for charity. By his birthday on April 30, Moore had raised more than £30 million ($40m USD).

Bottled at 40% ABV, Captain Sir Tom’s Gin is a delicate and herbaceous London dry Gin with soft hints of citrus, rosemary and thyme. It’s described as, “fresh and aromatic reminiscent of an English Summer Garden.” It’s recommended to be served with Indian tonic, a sprig of mint, and a juicy blackberry.

“On behalf of captain sir Tom and family we are delighted to be in partnership with Otterbeck Distillery and sincerely look forward to our journey together,” said Moore’s daughter Hannah Ingram-Moore. “We feel an electric connection to Yorkshire so working with a gin based here is so special to us as we continue to build our family legacy and celebrate our heritage.”

With the Gin, Moore is raising funds for his charity in collaboration with the founders of Otterbeck Distillery, Dougie and Nicola Lampkin. Dougie met Moore while making the ITV film, A Day in the Life of Captain Tom, and they bonded over a love for the Yorkshire Dales and vintage motorbikes. While visiting the Yorkshire Dales distillery, Moore joked that he would like to have a Gin of his own one day. Not too many months later, and it’s here.

Proceed from the sale of the Gin will be donated to The Captain Tom Foundation, which Moore established this year in an effort to inspire others to raise money while walking.

“It is an amazing privilege to be working with Captain Sir Tom and his foundation, which supports some incredible charities,” said Nicola. “We’re delighted to be able to do our bit to help support such worthwhile causes. Captain sir Tom has captured the imagination of the world and we’re proud to have distilled a very special gin with a very special man.”

Captain Sir Tom’s Gin is on sale for £35.95 ($48 USD) per 700ml bottle, and can be purchased via the distillery’s official website.
