A Martini Made To Pair With Fall And Sushi: Salted Plum Sake Martini

Salted Plum Sake Martini

Bathtub Gin’s Beverage Director Brendan Bartley stirred up gin and plum sake to create the perfect autumn martini, the Salted Plum Sake Martini

While on a trip to Japan many years ago, Brendan Bartley, Head Bartender and Beverage Director at Bathtub Gin in New York City, discovered salted plum candy. Its particular spectrum of flavors stuck with him in the years to come, until he eventually created Revivalist Garden Gin, and he realized the two flavor profiles would pair perfectly in a Japanese spin on a martini, the Salted Plum Sake Martini.

Those looking for a change up to their usual martini as fall approaches and wanting something to pair with sushi (and other umami dishes) would do well to give the drink a whirl as its blend of sweet and salty flavors makes for a perfect autumn sipper.

Bartley tells us about the cocktail

Name the cocktail.
Salted Plum Sake Martini

What inspired the name?
It’s simply inspired by the ingredients, telling the story of the drink through the name.

What’s this drink’s origin story?

This drink originated from a  visit to Japan many years ago where I first tried salted plum candy. It was an extraordinary combination of flavor and such a spectrum as well. It’s really what I think of when I drink Revivalist Garden Gin – a beautiful melody of contrasting ingredients all working together in harmony.

What other drinks belong in its family?
I would say this Martini is in the world of Vespers and Gibsons. The category is broadening with fun new twists on how to express these classic cocktails.

If you like ________ and ________ you should try this drink.
Gin Martinis and Vespers or Gibsons.

What food is this cocktail best served with?
For me, this has a great umami pairing. Sushi, halloumi salads and light pastas all come to mind. The sweet and salty element will really enhance and refresh your palate after every sip.
