Shingo Gokan Announces A Wine Cocktail Bar In Tokyo

Shingo Gokan has announced plans to open a wine cocktail bar and restaurant named Swirl in Shibuya, in Tokyo this autumn.

World-renowned Japanese mixologist Shingo Gokan, the mastermind behind internationally known cocktail bars Speak Low in Shanghai and The SG Club in Tokyo, will open doors on his new venue in Tokyo this October.

Themed around the unique concept of ‘wine cocktails’, Gokan has said that he does not plan to use any mixology equipment such as spoons or shakers. Instead, all drinks at the bar will be prepared by swirling in decanters.

Acclaimed sommelier Motohiro Ogoshi will take the helm of the venue, on hand to select bottles of wine that complete the drinks selection.

Latin American cuisine will be served to compliment the drinks. The kitchen will be run by Fumio Yonezawa, head chef of The Burn in Tokyo and also the first Japanese sous chef to man the kitchen at the three-star Michelin Jean-Georges in New York.

Currently, Gokan’s SG Club is ranked as the Best Bar in Japan by the The World’s 50 Best Bars and the third best bar in Asia overall. Speak Low, meanwhile, is ranked as the 35th in the company’s list of 50 Best Bars in the World.

If you’re looking for a more traditional in Tokyo, but don’t want anyone to join you, Hitori might be the place for you. Located on the seventeenth floor of an industrial building in the chic Shinjuku district, Hitori only allows patrons to enter the bar if they’re by themselves.
