St George Spirits Debuts Single Malt Whiskey Lot 20

St. George Single Malt Whiskey Lot 20

St George Spirits has unveiled Single Malt Whiskey Lot 20. It is the 20th anniversary edition of the iconic California craft distillery’s annual single malt release. The new Lot will roll out in October.

When current Master Distiller Lance Winters joined St George Spirits in 1996, it was with the express goal of creating single malt Whiskey. This was before the category of “American single malt” even existed, but Winters’s background in brewing informed his vision for the mash bill and what would become the Lot series of St. George Single Malt Whiskey.

The new St George Single Malt Whiskey Lot 20 follows in the tradition of Winters’ original vision for an American Single Malt. However, each year the Whiskey “has grown more complex and layered as the distillery has had access to older and more interesting barrels from its growing whiskey library to select for each blend.”

For Lot 20, St. George head distiller/blender Dave Smith used a blend of Whiskeys drawn from Kentucky Bourbon cask, Tennessee Whiskey cask, American and French oak apple Brandy cask, Port cask, and California Sauternes-style cask. The oldest barrel used in the mix “has solera-blended whiskey going back 21 years,” while the youngest is 4.5 years old.

On the nose, the Whiskey offers notes of orange marmalade, hazelnuts, stone fruit, and cocoa. The palate features coffee, cherry, chocolate, and cola. As for how to enjoy, the distillery recommends to drink it with “nothing more than a single large ice cube. This is as good as whiskey gets.”

Bottled at 43% ABV, St. George Single Malt Whiskey Lot 20 is set to be priced at around $100 per 750ml bottle. It is set for release in October with very limited edition coming to select markets.

In other recent American Single Malt news, Stranahan’s Colorado Whiskey has introduced Mountain Angel 10 Year Old – the brand’s oldest, rarest release and first 10 year old American single malt.
