The Irishman has added an Oloroso Sherry Cask Finish Whiskey to its Founder’s Reserve series. The Founder’s collection from the Walsh Whiskey brand comes from an interest in reviving 19th century recipes.
The Irishman Founder’s Reserve Oloroso Sherry Cask Finish is a blend of single malt and single pot still whiskeys that have been triple-distilled entirely in copper pots. First aged in American oak Bourbon barrels, the Whiskey is finished in Oloroso casks for an additional 12 months and bottled at 46% ABV.
“This decadent Oloroso sherry finish to Founder’s Reserve, which is our original whiskey, combines to deliver Christmas in a bottle,” said Bernard Walsh, creator of The Irishman range of whiskeys and Managing Director of Walsh Whiskey. “It is meant to be a treat to accompany the rich baking and cooking of the festive season, and of course to either reflect on the day or to share with your nearest and dearest. I hope you will join me in savouring a tasocan (‘tash-cawn’/ dram) of this limited edition over the Winter months.”
On the nose, nutty Oloroso Sherry notes mingle with the delicate aromas of dried fruit, tangerine and dark chocolate. The palate features hints of toasted oak, and velvet spice adds a sumptuous warmth to its powerful complexity.
The release of the Irishman Founder’s Reserve Oloroso Sherry Cask Finish is set to be limited to just nine Sherry butts, which should yield a tad over 8,000 bottles. It will be distributed across the United States, Canada, Russia, Ireland, and a variety of other key regions and has been priced at €75 ($89 USD)
Earlier this month, Walsh Whiskey’s’ other brand, Writers’ Tears, unveiled the 2020 vintage of its Cask Strength Whiskey. It is the 10th annual release of the super-premium expression and the first to appear in the brand’s new bottle and packaging.
