The Macallan has announced the addition of 15 Year Old and 18 Year Old expressions to its Double Cask Range. The two new single malt Whiskies join the 12 Year Old expression, which debuted in 2016.
Two distinct oaks casks are used to create the Highland Whisky range and both are seasoned with dry Oloroso sherry. American oak imparts delicate flavours of vanilla, citrus and butterscotch, while European oak delivers a subtle spice to the Double Cask Range.
A golden butterscotch in color, The Macallan Double Cask 15 Years Old features aromas of dried fruit, toffee and vanilla with smooth oak and baked apple on the nose. The palate possesses flavors of sweet raisin and sultana builds with hints of vanilla, wood spice, and citrus. The finish is warm with ginger turning to caramel and citrus, and a lingering and creamy mouth feel. It clocks in at 43% ABV with a price tag of $135. You can buy it here.
The Macallan Double Cask 18 Years Old is an amber honey in color. The nose smells of dried fruit, ginger and toffee, with notes of rich orange, clove and nutmeg. The palate features raisin and sultana with notes of caramel, vanilla, and ginger, balanced by wood spice and citrus. The finish is filled with warm oak spice and ginger that turns to sweet orange. Also clocking in at 43% ABV, the 18 year Old will cost you over twice as much, coming in at $330. You can buy It here.
“Oak influence is the single greatest contributor to the quality, natural color and distinctive aromas and flavors at the heart of The Macallan’s single malts,” says Kirsteen Campbell, Master Whisky Maker at The Macallan. “We are proud to offer two new expressions to this distinctive range for fans to explore.”
Recently, The Macallan opened an online shop, where you can purchase all of their Whiskies.
