Tres Monos in Buenos Aires has won the Michter’s Art of Hospitality Award as part of The World’s 50 Best Bars 2023. The winner of this award is selected by The World’s 50 Best Bars Academy, which is made up of more than 650 anonymous industry experts, who are asked to name the bar where they received the single-best hospitality experience during the voting period.
The Michter’s Art of Hospitality Award is the first of two special awards that will be announced in the run-up to the unveiling of the list of The World’s 50 Best Bars 2023, sponsored by Perrier. The live ceremony will take place on Tuesday, October 17 in Singapore–marking the first time the event has been held outside of Europe.
“Since its opening in 2019, we have seen Tres Monos climb the list of The World’s 50 Best Bars, so the fact it is the first establishment in South America to receive this accolade comes as no surprise,” said William Drew, Director of Content for 50 Best. “Whilst the drinks themselves are an irrefutable demonstration of Argentinian innovation and excellence, it is the team’s punk-rock approach to hospitality that has firmly established Tres Monos on the global stage. This is a hugely well-deserved win, and we extend our heartfelt congratulations to the entire Tres Monos team.”
Taking inspiration from the Japanese primate proverb, Tres Monos stands as a compact neighborhood bar in the Palermo Soho barrio of Buenos Aires, Argentina. Celebrated for its low-fi neon aesthetic, its ‘90s soundtrack, and a concise menu of democratic signatures that riff on the classics, Tres Monos founders Sebastián Atienza and Charly Aguinsky apply their playful punk ethos to every element of the relaxed setting. The charismatic team extends its warm porteño hospitality to each guest that enters the vibrant interior, under the neon pink auspices of a mischievously raised middle finger.
The bar’s passionate commitment to its community has resulted not only in deep ties to local producers, showcasing the diversity of native Argentinian ingredients, but in a thriving bartender training program in the under-served Mugica district of the capital.
Co-founders and owners Charly Aguinsky and Sebastián Atienza comment: “Argentina and Latin America stand out for the hospitality of its people. In Tres Monos particularly, we believe hospitality is the most important thing in a bar because people might forget what they had to drink but they won’t forget how you made them feel. That was our primary goal when we opened the bar: to make people feel welcomed in every situation; hence receiving the Michter’s Art of Hospitality Award is the ultimate accolade for us as a group. This makes us feel really proud of what we’ve built, and we are grateful to the amazing team working with us, who make Tres Monos what it is today.”
Matt Magliocco, Executive Vice President for Michter’s Distillery, says: “Congratulations to the Tres Monos team on winning the Michter’s Art of Hospitality Award. This recognition is a testament to the Tres Monos team’s constant attention to delivering unforgettable guest experiences.”
