Walsh Whiskey Debuts Writers’ Tears Cask Strength 2022

Writers’ Tears Cask Strength 2022

Walsh Whiskey has released Writers’ Tears Cask Strength 2022, the 12th edition of the Irish whiskey

Writers’ Tears Cask Strength 2022 is a mix of aged single pot still and single malt whiskeys. Both styles were distilled three times, aged in American oak Bourbon barrels, and bottled without chill filtration.

“Cask strength Irish whiskey is still quite rare but our vatting combining both pot still and single malt is truly unique,” said Bernard Walsh, Writers’ Tears creator and co-founder of Walsh Whiskey. “Consumers are looking to trade-up their Irish whiskey experience and this is a genuine super-premium expression that has steadily built a following internationally over the last 12 years.”

On the nose, the whiskey offers aromas of pear drops and candied fruits. The palate delivers heather honey, fennel, and cinnamon. The finish is described as featuring “creamy, chewy toffee.”

Bottled at 54.6% ABV, this year’s vintage is limited to 7,920 bottles – of which 2,100 are headed for the US. The remaining bottles will be sold around the world, including in the travel retail channel.

Writers’ Tears Cask Strength 2022 is priced at RRP US$150 (€140) per bottle.

In November, Luxembourg-based Amber Beverage Group acquired Walsh Whiskey for an undisclosed amount.

In October 2021, the producer debuted Writers’ Tears Ice Wine Cask Finish, created in partnership with Canadian winery Inniskillin.
