Whiskey Del Bac Debuts Limited Edition Normandie, Finished In Calvados Barrels

Whiskey Del Bac Normandie

Whiskey Del Bac is set to release a new limited edition single malt whiskey, Normandie. The offering is aged in charred, new American white oak barrels, then finished in Calvados brandy barrels for an additional 13 months.

Normandie is the second release of the Whiskey Del Bac Global Cask Collection which consists of three total limited annual releases. The three bottlings are all inspired by various locations around the world. The first release was influenced by the bold sherry wines of Jerez de la Frontera, Spain. Normandie is influenced by the coastal region of northern France from which it gets its name, as well as the region’s rich cheeses, apples, pears, and seafood. The third release, set to launch in December, is a fusion of Desert Southwest and Islay Scotch.

“The richness and culinary culture of Normandy reminded us of the culinary scene in our hometown of Tucson, a UNESCO City of Gastronomy,” said Whiskey Del Bac Co-Founder Stephen Paul. “Blending the bright apple flavors from these Calvados barrels with the earthy and caramel tones of our Classic American Single Malt to create this expression has been an adventure in whiskey making. We couldn’t be more happy with the way this expression turned out.”

The Calvados brandy barrels finish was revived for the release of Normandie due to the immense popularity of Whiskey Del Bac 2018 Summer Distiller’s Cut, which utilized this finish.

On the nose, the whisky offers notes of caramel-dipped apples, sour cherry, and dulce de leche. The palate delivers bright citrus, peppery notes across the mid-palate, and it finishes with short-but-sweet caramel and stone fruit. It is recommended to be served with one large ice cube.

Bottled at 48.5% ABV, the Whiskey Del Bac Normandie retails for $90 per bottle. Only 900 bottles will be produced and will be available throughout select national restaurant and store markets where the brand is distributed.
