WhistlePig Teams Up With Traeger Grills To Create Smoked Rye Whiskey

BBQ season is in full swing and with Labor Day just a few weeks off, the whiskey makers over at WhistlePig have decided to make something special for every grillmaster’s favorite time of year, a smoked rye. To do so, the Vermont-based brand teamed up with wood pellet grill specialist Traeger Grills to create SmokeStock Wood Fired Whiskey.

WhistlePig SmokeStock Wood Fired Whiskey is aged in American Oak No. 3 char barrels and then smoked slow and low with Traeger’s all-natural Apple BBQ wood. The limited edition whiskey is further smoked during the proofing process to impart what’s described as “campfire smoke and subtle savory notes alongside WhistlePig’s signature bold and spice-forward style.”

On the nose, the rye delivers smoky notes with hints of leather and vanilla. The palate finds smoke gradually welling up, bringing a mouthful of warm creamy apple and slight savory barbecue flavors. The finish is long, carrying even more smoke and the brand’s signature rye notes.

“WhistlePig is known for pushing boundaries in the name of quality and great taste. Nothing matches our big, complex flavor better than a shared meal, which is why we created our first ever smoked whiskey with the brand that invented wood fired flavor,” said Meghan Ireland, WhistlePig Blender. “SmokeStock is a nod to the American cookout season, and we can’t wait to see how customers make it their own. Personally, I recommend enjoying it lakeside, alongside a rack of wood-fired ribs!”

“The work of two great, authentic brands, always makes for an incredible story to tell,” added Traeger Grills CMO Todd Smith. “It’s been fun to collaborate with the WhistlePig team on their SmokeStock  whiskey, infused with delicious wood fired flavor for ultimate summer sipping. We’re excited to push these summer flavors even farther into the fall with the launch of a limited edition Traeger x WhistlePig whiskey-infused rub and sauce, as well as a wood pellet made from recycled WhistlePig whiskey barrels.”

WhistlePig SmokeStock Whiskey is available online at the brand’s official website and will hit store shelves across the US this summer for around $73 per 750ml bottle.

In June, WhistlePig has launched two new bottled-in-bond whiskeys, FarmStock Beyond Bonded Rye and FarmStock Beyond Bonded Bourbon.
