Writers’ Tears has unveiled the 2020 vintage of its Cask Strength Whiskey. This is the 10th annual release of the super-premium expression and the first to appear in the Walsh Whiskey-owned brand’s new bottle and packaging.

Writers’ Tears 2020 Cask Strength Whiskey is a rare vatting of aged Single Pot Still and Single Malt Whiskey. It is triple distilled, natural non-chill filtered, carefully aged in Bourbon barrels and bottled, this year, at 54.5% ABV. The 2020 release is limited to just 3,000 individually numbered bottles, signed by Writers’ Tears creator and Walsh Whiskey Co-founder – Bernard Walsh.

“This is a particularly special release,” said Walsh. “The annual Cask Strength vintage of Writers’ Tears represents the most exclusive expression in the range and this year sees the first ever changes to the bottle, labelling and uniquely styled packaging since the expression was launched in 2011.”

“The new design for our limited cask editions have their own unique label design to allow for more detail about these special whiskeys. Of course the label on the bottle-neck carries the technical detail of each whiskey including the whiskey, cask and still types; the batch and bottle number.”

On the nose, the Whiskey offers ginger and pepper spice under rich butterscotch. The palate delivers toasted oak, biscuit, vanilla, and dark chocolate. The finish is described as “exceptional” and “bursting with flavour.”

Writers’ Tears 2020 Cask Strength Whiskey is on sale across selected markets worldwide, with 1,500 bottles destined for the USA and 1,500 shared across the Rest of the World, including Ireland, Europe and Canada. It will be on sale for $144.99 per bottle.

Yesterday, Writers’ Tears rolled out a full range rebrand that includes changes to its bottle, label, and packaging. The bottle’s top will now feature a cork and there will be a large glass teardrop embossed onto the bottle-shoulder, above and to the front of the main label.
