1862 Dry Bar

1862 Dry Bar - Madrid

One of Malasaña’s best drinks destinations, 1862 Dry Bar offers guests the opportunity to enjoy a mix of creative and classic cocktails.

With its bars, cafes, and vintage clothing stores, Malasaña is one of Madrid’s hippest neighborhoods, and 1862 Dry Bar fits right in as one of its best spots to stop for a drink. Their mix of warm hospitality and inventive cocktails makes it a standout in the Spanish capital, while the minimalist decor and large collection of spirits lets visitors know that the concentration is on what’s in your glass.

Owner Alberto Martínez tells us…

Please describe 1862 Dry Bar as if you’re explaining the experience of walking through the doors and ordering your first drink.

From outside you get to see the lights that glow behind our bottles. Entering you feel the high ceiling with our classy lamps and a wide wooden bar. Please sit down and take a look at our cocktail menu

How would you describe 1862 Dry Bar in a three-word text to a friend that you’re trying to convince to join you?

Old school cocktails

Other than 1862 Dry Bar, what else is happening in the neighborhood that you’re in?

Plenty. Malasaña is booming with bars. From the American diner styled Harvey’s to the Prohibition speakeasy themed Bad Company, elegant cocktails at Santamaria, mexican vibes at Marrufo, asian hospitality at Ni-Fu Ni-Fa or the amazing Mai Tais at Tiki Volcano.

Aside from Happy Hour, when is the best time to get to the bar?

We’re open for a wide range of hours. Some people prefer the early afternoon, some like an aperitif before dinner, and the night owls come after midnight.

Describe the average drinkers that you serve?

There are all kinds of patrons at our bar. During the week, many regulars, couples on a date and tourists as well. Weekends are more open to friends meeting up.

Please tell us more about your drinks menu.

With a classic approach, the menu is divided into three parts. Opening with “Signature,” here we showcase the creations of our staff. What we call “Improved” is a selection of old classics that we recreate using top self ingredients and some twists from our team. However, we are open to any classic drink, and seasonally we propose 30 of them in our central part of the menu.

What’s your signature drink–or your favorite drink currently on the menu–and why should I order it?

There are 10 signature drinks on our menu. Personally, I could say Prescription is my favorite. The structure of a classic sour, with lemon and egg white. The base is a blend of Italian and French apéritifs.

How much do drinks cost?

Signature drinks cost 11€, most classics 10€.

Is there anything to eat?  If so – what’s your favorite dish on the menu?

We don’t serve food.

What are the distinguishing features of 1862 Dry Bar?

We think warm hospitality is the key. We’ll try to find the drink that you will enjoy

What’s that music we hear playing on the 1862 Dry Bar stereo?

We play low volume. Mainly crooners and jazz in the afternoon, can move to indie rock or more uptempo vibes later on.
