Award-winning Mexico City bar Hanky Panky has announced its brand new cocktail menu, Passport. It is the first new menu in three years from the team led by Walter Meyenberg, Gina Barbachano and Ismael Martinez, and follows Hanky Panky’s rise to number 12 in the World’s 50 Best Bars 2021 and the recent launch of their new takeovers plans for 2022.
The new drinks are influenced by Meyenberg, Barbachano and Martinez’s travels in 2021, when the team decided to overcome the challenges that the bar community faced and brought people together in a time of difficulties, embarking on a series of takeovers. First by opening the doors of their home in Mexico City to friends from the USA, India, South America, and Europe who were not able to work due to their own countries restrictions, and then by traveling overseas themselves: six cities in sixteen days, fun events, great parties and incredible drinks. Passport was born as a logbook of this enriching experience, when the team decided to pay homage to all the dear friends they met on their way.
An early favorite, Casa Batlló, is inspired by their stop in Barcelona, Spain, and in particular by the perfect blend between olive oil and fresh tomatoes from the pan con tomate, a classic dish in Spanish cuisine, and the art of sharing at the table. In the drink, the Tequila Curado is mixed with Mezcal Macurichos Tepeztate and an aromatic Caprese cordial and results in a smoky martini style drink, with tomato, basil and olive notes.
Latino Americano is inspired by the city of Cartagena, Colombia, and is made using a mix of Campari infused with pineapple and coffee, Antica Formula vermouth infused with cardamom and thyme, clarified pineapple juice, and mineral water. The long drink is refreshing, biter and fruity with coffee notes.
On top of the 12 new drinks, the menu also includes five cocktails from Hanky Panky’s friends abroad, a selection of classics, and a selection of different places to go to and to see around the city, including other bars, restaurants, local shops, and tours.
