Duck and Cover

Duck and Cover - Copenhagen

Duck and Cover offers one of Copenhagen’s hippest neighborhoods, Vesterbro, a laid back bar with quality cocktails and plenty of hygge.

Duck and Cover offers guests classic Danish bar vibes with its minimalist decor and home-like coziness. Since opening in 2013, it’s given often loud and overcrowded Vesterbro a subterranean space for calm nightcaps amongst its vintage furniture and dim lighting. The seasonal menu focuses on local ingredients with aquavit regularly taking center stage. Past favorites like the Slap me Silly milk punch show off the bar’s spirit for innovation, but also free to order up a classic cocktail.

Wood, leather, and vintage glassware help pay homage to mid-century Danish design, adding to the bar’s relaxing atmosphere. Reservations are available till 8pm, but it’s open seating after that, making it the perfect place to end any evening.

Owner Kasper Riewe-Høgh tells us…

Please describe Duck and Cover as if you’re explaining the experience of walking through the doors and ordering your first drink.

Duck and Cover is a small neighborhood bar in Copenhagen. Local focus, mid-century décor and seasonal menus.

How would you describe Duck and Cover in a three-word text to a friend that you’re trying to convince to join you?

Quality cocktails, no nonsense, cozy atmosphere, dimmed lights and a homely living room atmosphere.

Other than Duck and Cover, what else is happening in the neighborhood that you’re in?

Vesterbro is one the busiest boroughs in Copenhagen. Many bars, restaurants, cafes and small and interesting shops, galleries and much more. A buzzing vibe with something for everyone

Aside from Happy Hour, when is the best time to get to the bar?

Anytime – However we recommend booking especially during weekends. We accept reservations with an arrival time at 8pm or prior to that. After 8pm it is “first come – first served”.

Describe the average drinkers that you serve?

Could be anyone. We don’t care if you are wearing flip flops and a bowler or board shorts and blazer.

Please tell us more about your drinks menu.

We aim for a seasonal menu with an increasing local focus. We change the menu on average 5-6 times a year. Depending on season and creative energy.

What’s your signature drink–or your favorite drink currently on the menu–and why should I order it?

I don’t believe in One Specific signature cocktail, you risk ending up serving something that many will order – but not all will like. Let us know what you like, and we will happily guide you. But be aware that Akvavit is often top of mind. Luckily that can go in many directions ☺

What are the distinguishing features of Duck and Cover?

Our décor, the leaned back down to earth atmosphere and our local focus.

What’s that music we hear playing on the Duck and Cover stereo?
