Rabbit Hole Releases 15-Year-Old Bourbon Finished In Mizunara Barrels

Rabbit Hole Mizunara

Rabbit Hole Distillery’s cask-strength, 15-Year-Old Mizunara Bourbon features a price tag of $1,500.00

Rabbit Hole Distillery has unveiled the second release of its Mizunara, a cask-strength, 15-year-old Kentucky straight bourbon whiskey finished in Japanese Mizunara Oak. The new offering joins the brand’s Founder’s Collection.

For this limited release, Rabbit Hole Distillery Founder Kaveh Zamanian selected 15-year-old whiskey barrels from his own collection. Then finished them in these special Japanese Mizunara Oak barrels.

The Founder’s Collection is a platform under which Zamanian and team develop unique expressions. Released bi-annually, each limited-edition, cask-strength offering is a testament to the distillery’s ethos: “No Shortcuts. No Compromise. Nothing Left To Chance.” Previous editions have included Dareringer, finished in PX Sherry Casks from Spain; and Nevallier, a 16-year-old bourbon finished in French Oak barrels.

Zamanian notes:

“For years, I’ve been fascinated by the terroir and traditions of fine whiskey making. When I finally got my hands on a handful of elusive casks from a small family-owned cooperage in Japan, I knew I wanted to create something special to honor the mystique and beauty of Hokkaido’s oak trees.

“When crafting Mizunara, I chose barrels from my personal collection of Kentucky straight bourbon – each aged to perfection for 15 years – and finished them in casks made of the finest Japanese Mizunara Oak for more than 11 months.

“This special edition whiskey exemplifies the innovation and creativity that goes into each of our Founder’s Collection releases, and we’re proud to share this masterpiece with collectors who favor one-of-a-kind whiskeys.”

The nose delivers notes of nutmeg, allspice, walnut and leather, balanced by mint, honey, wood and orange. The palate finds tobacco and oak lingering as hints of custard, banana and cinnamon give way to floral notes. The finish features dark cherry and chocolate.

The limited-edition bottle features a heavy gold cork. The linen-patterned gift box, meanwhile, is designed to display the deep mahogany liquid in its full grandeur.

Bottled at 51.9% ABV, only 2,200 bottles of Mizunara are available for purchase at the Distillery and select markets nationwide. Priced at $1,500 each, you can also purchase through the distillery website.
