The 2024 edition of Angel’s Envy Cask Strength Bourbon finds the Kentucky whiskey makers changing up its aging method for the first time

Angel’s Envy has unveiled the 2024 release of its Cask Strength Bourbon. The 13th edition of the Kentucky brand’s annual bottling puts a new spin on the whiskey that uses two different types of port casks for aging.

Previous editions of the Angel’s Envy Cask Strength Bourbon finished the whiskey solely in ruby Port casks. For the 2024 edition, however, master distiller Owen Martin used a combination of ruby and tawny Port.

“I’m excited to continue evolving what fans can expect from the Angel’s Envy Cask Strength program in new yet familiar ways,” says Martin. “This year’s Cask Strength Bourbon not only honors the familiar flavors our fans love but also adds another layer of complexity with the tawny finish. It’s a great example of our vision for innovation, staying true to our roots while striving to provide a fresh perspective on our cherished whiskeys and American whiskey overall.”

On the nose, the Bourbon offers aromas of brown sugar and butterscotch leading to notes of stone fruit, pear, and spice. The palate delivers crisp apple crumble with buttery pie crust, and darker notes of chocolate, oak, and cinnamon honey. Martin used a solera method when blending, a first for Angel’s Envy.

In another first for the distillery, Angel’s Envy used a solera method to age the whiskey for this new release. According to the brand, this means that Martin and the team are “rebarreling a portion of each year’s release so that they can roll a percentage of it into the following year.”

Bottled at 59.4%, a total of 23,196 bottles of Angel’s Envy 2024 Cask Strength Bourbon will be released and are priced at $230 each. For more information, head over to the brand’s official website.

Earlier this year, Angel’s Envy unveiled its first unfinished bourbon as a Cask Strength Bottled-in-Bond release. In September, the distillery unveiled Triple Oak, the first new addition to the brand’s Signature Series in over a decade
