A Macallan whisky milk punch, the Magnetum cocktail from Connaught Bar in London acts as a metaphor of how the bar brings people together 

It might be a bit cliche, and a little 1980s, to say, but bars bring people together. Whether it’s old friends or new ones waiting to be made, these drink-filled spaces have long acted as a third place, allowing people to unwind and come together. In celebration of this tradition and the Connaught Bar’s ability to do so in one of the world’s busiest cities, London, the team created the Magnetum cocktail, a Macallan-based whisky milk punch perfect for any evening.

What inspired the name? What’s this drink’s origin story?

The magnetism of elements. The drink takes inspiration from our bar and its pillars: the venue itself, the team, and the guests. It is served as a layered liquid that we offer to our guests to blend and unite using the bespoke metallic ice lift as a metaphor of how all things and people come together at The Connaught Bar.

Ingredients

  • 30 ml Macallan 12YO Scotch Whisky
  • 5 ml Pedro Ximenex Sherry
  • 75ml Milk Punch*
  • 2 drops Bob’s Lavender Bitters

*Milk punch: 60 ml Fino sherry, 10 ml Galliano L’Autentico, fresh Fennel, fennel seeds, Lemon Verbena & Pineapple

Directions

Layer Macallan 12, Pedro Ximenex and the bitters on top of the milk punch in a rocks glass where you will have previously added the metallic ice lift and a chunk of ice. Stir using the ice lift until the layers of ingredients blend in the glass.
