Three Wrens has released what is believed to be the world’s first Gin distilled and infused with Bison Grass. The English distillery grew and nurtured the bison grass seed at its distillery in Cheshire, UK.
Three Wrens Bison Grass Gin is made with hierochloe odorata, also known as bison grass. Historically, bison grass has been used by people throughout Europe and North America during various ceremonies.
To create the Gin, bison grass is vapour infused and distilled with 10 other botanicals, including Tuscan juniper, apple mint, lemon mint, fresh lime and grains of paradise. From there, more bison grass is then macerated in the finished gin, before the spirit is filtered and bottled at 41.5% ABV.
Three Wrens Bison Grass Gin offers aromas of fresh hay and lemongrass, a rich hit of juniper on the palate and a long, smooth and herbaceous finish. Each bottle comes with a strand of bison grass inside and is 00% organic.
The brand recommends serving the spirit with classic or elderflower tonic water, and garnished with a slice of fresh apple.
The limited edition expression is on sale for £38.50 ($52 USD) per 700ml bottle and is available to buy from the Three Wrens official website.
Three Wrens distillery was founded in 2019 by master distiller Nick Wadeson, who has 20 years’ experience in the drink and spirits industry, both as a bartender and a sales and brand manager for global gin companies.
In other world’s first Gin news, Up Craft Spirits launched Ginout, an innovative Portuguese Gin that is being called the world’s first to be “aged from the inside out.” The new brand is a venture between award-winning distiller Barney Wilczak and rising cake designer Catia Mesquita. It is believed that this is the first time cork has been used as a botanical to age spirits, using the natural material’s potential to enrich a Gin.
