Trader Joe’s is getting back on the bottled cocktails train. This time around, the grocery store chain’s first releases are a Ready To Drink Old Fashioned and a Ready To Drink Whiskey Sour, both of which were recently profiled on their blog, Dig In.
According to the blog, both Trader Joe’s bottled cocktails come from a “small, craft distiller”. It’s unlikely we’ll ever figure out exactly who that is, as per the company’s protocol.
Trader Joe’s Old Fashioned use the “time-tested recipe” of Bourbon Whiskey, cane sugar, and a custom blend of spiced orange bitters. “Every sip is deliciously balanced between the sweetness of muddled sugar and caramel notes of Bourbon, and the citric zest of orange and bite of aromatic bitters,” adds the brand. They recommend serving it over ice and garnished with a cherry.
Trader Joe’s Whiskey Sour is made with Bourbon Whiskey, cane sugar, and lemon juice, as well as lemon oil and a custom blend of spiced orange bitters to give it an edge. “It’s a little sweet, a little sour, and a lot refreshing,” says the blog. It’s recommended served chilled in a cocktail glass, with a little ice, and garnished with an orange slice.
Both of Trader Joe’s bottle cocktails are available for $16.99 per 750ml bottle and are only available in TJ stores and states where wine is sold and liquor sales are allowed. They also seem to be limited edition offerings as the posts note the pre-mixed drinks will me around“While we can keep it in stock.”
Almost immediately after posting, TJ added, “NOTE: Since posting, the details of this item may have changed due to fluctuating market prices, federal regulations, currency rates, drought, bandits, rush hour traffic, filibusters, zombie apocalypse, punctilious product developers … Contact our Crew for current price and availability.”
