After four years away, the Italian mixologist is returning to the London bar where it all began.
Italian bartender Angelo Sparvoli is returning to The American Bar at The Savoy after spending four years at other famed London bars, including Kwãnt and St James Bar. Sparvoli got his start at the iconic hotel watering hole back in 2016, working his way up from bar back to senior bartender in 2020.
“I left a piece of my heart at the American Bar, and it is a pleasure to be returning four years later in this new role,” said Sparvoli after the news broke. “I look forward to achieving great things with the incredibly passionate team, reuniting with familiar faces and ensuring the bar remains at the forefront of this ever-changing industry.”
Now, Sparvoli is working with bar manager Andrea Di Chiara on a new menu that will “stay true to the bar’s heritage while embracing new techniques.”
Sparvoli takes over from Chelsie Bailey, who left The American Bar earlier this year after only a year or so in charge.
Last May, Bailey launched a new menu at the bar, while in 2022 The American Bar unveiled another new cocktail menu called Re:Invented.
Elsewhere at The Savoy, Chris Murphy has been named the new Director of Food and Beverage, and will oversee operations at the hotel’s Thames Foyer, American Bar, and Beaufort Bar.
“These two appointments mark the start of a new culinary chapter with significant enhancements to our food and beverage offering planned throughout the year,” said Franck Arnold, regional vice-president and managing director of The Savoy. “We are paving the way to ensure we really are the place in London to enjoy the best and most varied drinking and dining experiences.”
