Kentucky-based whiskey maker Angel’s Envy has unveiled its first unfinished bourbon as a Cask Strength Bottled-in-Bond release
Angel’s Envy is stepping out of its wheelhouse and launching an unfinished whiskey for the first time, Angel’s Envy Cask Strength Bottled-in-Bond. The brand launched itself back in 2006 with a concentration on cask-finished American whiskeys, a practice that was almost unheard of at the time.
Aged for nearly six years, the Cask Strength Bottled in Bond came to meet its bottled-in-bond regulations a little differently than most. “In spring 2018, the team started with a lower barrel entry proof of 103 and placed our barrels in a cool, humid warehouse,” says Master Distiller Owen Martin. “Instead of withdrawing them at 100 proof, we let them mature further to prioritize flavor. We drew the barrels at 98-99 proof and blended 27 low-proof barrels with two high-proof barrels from the same season to reach exactly 100 proof, creating Cask Strength Bottled in Bond.”
The final bourbon offers aromas of lightly caramelized sugars and vanilla wafers with a hint of banana pudding. The palate is sweet and balanced with notes of honey latte, light fruit syrup, and toasted oak. The round and soft finish fades gently.
Only 12,000 bottles of the Angel’s Envy Cask Strength Bottled in Bond will be made available in 375ml form for $54.99 each and is only available for purchase at the distillery. For more information, head over to the brand’s official website.
In January, Angel’s Envy made its lauded Cellar Collection Series Volumes 1-3 available to the public for the first time.
