One of the last bars on Sunset Boulevard before it ends at Figueroa in Chinatown, Bar Henry has blossomed into one of the best places for a drink in Los Angeles, period. If you like American whiskey, they’ve got a well-curated list; if you’re more of a beer and a shot person, they’ve got options; if it’s a cocktail kind of a night, it’s still the place to go. The vibe is chill yet talkative, the music leans toward modern classics, and the space is stylish without being stuffy. They quote “Footnote to Howl” by Ginsberg on their website, which, in this case, we can actually get behind.
Price:
$$ (If you order expensive whiskey, it’s still going to be expensive)
What’s the crowd like?
Anywhere from 25 to 45 and looking for good drinks and conversation. The set tends to be made up of creatives or industry folks that aren’t here to simply be seen.
What am I drinking?
American whiskey and cocktails (the classics and modern plays are both good) are the go-tos here, but we generally opt for one of the beer and a shot combinations. There are also a few non-alcoholic options as it is truly a place for everyone.
Is there anything to eat?
There are a couple of options (potato chips, olives, a soft pretzel) if you need something, but you’re here for the drinks and the space.
When should I get here?
It’s the perfect after-dinner spot for another drink or two and to let the conversation linger.
Why am I here?
Good drinks, good conversation, good music, and a reminder of what makes LA a truly great town. Also, did we mention the beer and shot options?
