The Bols Genever Original recipe has been the Bols brand’s backbone for 200 years. Introduced in 1820 as a new style with a subtler and more harmonious taste, it’s still the world’s go-to Genever (Jenever) that combines the mixability of a white spirit and the complexity of a brown spirit. When we think of drinking in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, it’s this spirit that is our constant partner.
Bols Genever Original has a smooth malty flavor with apricot tones and a hit of musky juniper. It is a delightfully complex triple grain spirit made of corn, rye, and wheat. Copper pot distilled and blended with 22 botanicals, including juniper berries, hops, ginger, coriander, and sweet orange, is the go-to when you’re looking for a little variation in your usually Gin cocktail, and it makes a heck of a Negroni.
Bols recommends you give the spirit a try in a Red Light Negroni. Red, bold and tough, just like its hometown Amsterdam. The Red Light Negroni is a delightfully complex cocktail which embodies the city in every way. Enjoy, with love from Amsterdam:
- 1 oz. Bols Genever Original
- 1 oz. Galliano L’Aperitivo
- 1 oz. Sweet Vermouth
Combine all ingredients in a Genever light bulb cocktail glass and mix. Serve light bulb in rocks glass.
To this day, Bols Genever Original continues to win awards. It won Double Gold and Best of Show during the Wine and Spirits Wholesalers of America convention 2018 and got rewarded with the Best Dutch Genever Award during the World Best Gin competition 2018.
Bols may very well be the oldest distillery brand in the world having been in existence since 1575. The brand also makes two other Genevers: Bols Genever Barrel Aged and Bols Genever 100% Malt Spirit, as well as a large variety of flavored liqueurs.
