Brugal has dipped into the Dominican Republic’s cafecito tradition to create a coffee-flavored rum as part of its Colección Visionaria Edición 02 Coffee
Dominican rum Brugal has unveiled the second in its limited-edition sipping rum collection, Colección Visionaria Edición 02 Coffee. The series celebrates the Dominican Republic’s local ingredients, with the previous release paying tribute to cacao.
The Brugal Colección Visionaria Edición 02 rum draws inspiration from the country’s culture and history of coffee-growing, including a “cafecito” moment where loved-one enjoy coffee together. Created by fifth-generation Maestra Ronera Jassil Villanueva Quintana, the Colección Visionaria Edición 02 Coffee utilizes Brugal’s aromatic cask toasting techniques.
French oak casks are gently toasted alongside coffee beans, infusing the wood and spirit with bold flavors. The beans develop a robust flavor-profile and are grown in rich, mountain soil, benefitting from the cool, high-altitude climate. The expression showcases aromas of caramel, bitter dark chocolate, sweet vanilla, and a whiff of smoke on the nose. Cinnamon, cloves, and nutmeg present themselves on the front of the palate, then transition to notes of dried fruit and coffee. The finish lingers with smoke that evolves gently, leaving a lasting impression of balanced flavors.
Each bottle is handcrafted, sealed, and wrapped in navy blue netting. The label displays a batch number along with a personal signature from VIllanueva Quintana. With only six batches created, just 35,000 bottles will be made available worldwide.
“Many stories and laughs have been shared over a cherished cafecito in the Dominican Republic,” says Quintana. “It is these warm moments and nostalgic aromas that we wanted to recreate in Colección Visionaria Edición 02. In the theme of cafecito nostalgia, Quintana stated “This new rum is a celebration of shared moments and memories, an invitation to enjoy the warmth of good company and the rich, inviting flavors of our homeland.”
