Limited-edition Compass Box Flaming Heart: 25th Anniversary Edition blended malt Scotch whisky intensifies its smoky character with custom French oak maturation
Compass Box has unveiled Flaming Heart: 25th Anniversary Edition, a limited release commemorating the brand’s quarter-century milestone. This eighth edition of the iconic blended malt Scotch whisky is bottled at 48.9% ABV, with only 9,384 bottles available globally at a suggested retail price of $165.
First introduced in 2006, Flaming Heart is renowned for its fusion of rich peat smoke and the complex spice derived from new French oak maturation. The 25th Anniversary Edition intensifies this signature profile by exclusively using peated whiskies and those matured in custom French oak barrels. Key components include malts from Benrinnes, Talisker, Laphroaig, and the Islay malt known as “Williamson.”
James Saxon, Whiskymaking Director at Compass Box, stated, “This release isn’t just a nod to where we’ve been; it’s a declaration of where we’re headed. The bold character of Flaming Heart: 25th Anniversary Edition reflects everything Compass Box stands for: daring innovation, craftsmanship, and our constant pursuit of unforgettable flavor.”
The whisky offers a dynamic flavor profile: rich, oily smoke envelops the nose, complemented by vibrant spice and subtle hints of raspberry and apricot. Tarry rope and maritime undertones add depth, while the palate reveals exotic spices like clove, pink and black pepper, and nutmeg. Bright fruit notes interplay with medicinal peat, culminating in a long, smoky finish with ashy wood, menthol, and citrus oils.
The label design for this edition features flames and a protective chamber of oak, with two cherubs—now depicted as coopers—inspecting an oaken structure housing a burning heart. This imagery symbolizes Compass Box’s 25 years of whiskymaking passion.
