Craigellachie 37 Years Old Debuts For $5,000

Craigellachie 37 Years Old

Craigellachie has released a limited-edition 37 Year Old single malt Scotch whisky.  The new offering from the Speyside distillery is priced at $5,000 USD.

Craigellachie 37 Years Old Bourbon Cask was distilled in 1984 and initially aged in refill casks before being transferred into first-fill Bourbon casks. Bottled at 46.5% ABV and is limited to just 3,012 bottles.

“Slumbering in refill casks for more than three decades has really allowed for Craigellachie’s challenging distillery style to shine through,” explained Stephanie Macleod, Bacardi’s director of blending. “The pineapple flavor note Craigellachie is so well known for has aged beautifully. Finishing in first-fill casks – one of the most influential types of cask, in terms of their contribution to the flavor – has bestowed notes of creamy coconut, vanilla and citrus to the aged malt, giving it a boost of indulgent complexity. The aroma opens with notes of pineapple tarte tatin and crème anglaise, balanced with soft cereals and notes of toasted banana bread. Faint whispers of fire embers emerge with the addition of water then fade to spicy vanilla and delicate oak-derived coconut. The palate is boldly complex with sweet acidity at first, mellowing to soft fruits and almonds with a long, indulgent finish.”

Craigellachie 37 Years Old will first launch in travel retail exclusively via Gebr Heinemann until 1 August in Istanbul, Frankfurt and Amsterdam. Then, it will be released in the UK, Germany, France, China and Taiwan. For more information, head over to the brand’s official website.

Last August, Craigellachie unveiled the first whisky in its Cask Collection, Craigellachie 13 Years Old Armagnac Cask Finish. Inspired by the distillery’s use of old-fashioned “worm tub” condensers, the collection finds the Speyside brand sourcing casks for finishing from other producers of oak-aged spirits, who also stick to traditional methods, and use a ‘worm tub’ to create their liquid wares.
