If you’re looking to turn back the clock a few decades while sipping classic cocktails and enjoying live music, The Dresden is the place to go.
Family owned since 1953, The Dresden is a complete time warp. From its old school booths to its white marble bar top, this longtime Los Feliz favorite offers live music nightly along with classic cocktails at the bar and white tablecloth dining for those so inclined. Pair a martini or a manhattan with shrimp scampi or try the Y Tu Mama Tambien with their World Famous Prime Rib, either way, you won’t be disappointed.
Bar manager Mark Ferraro tells us…
Please describe The Dresden as if you’re explaining the experience of walking through the doors and ordering your first drink.
It’s a complete time warp back to the 50s and 60s, as if you’re in a scene from Mad Men. Whether you’re sitting at one of the large old school booths, or at the dimly lit bar top made of white marble, the entire scene is classic with an array of different live lounge music playing in the background as well. The Dresden also features a cocktail menu with a variety of favorite classics and modern craft cocktails unique to The Dresden.
How would you describe The Dresden in a three-word text to a friend that you’re trying to convince to join you?
Vibey.OldSchool.Hollywood.
Other than The Dresden, what else is happening in the neighborhood that you’re in?
Plenty! Mirate offers a fantastic cocktail program and feels as if you’ve been teleported to Tulum. Plenty of good Italian eateries, but my favorite must be il Capriccio on Vermont. Little Dom’s has a great atmosphere as well. The entire neighborhood comes alive during Greek Theater season.
Aside from Happy Hour, when is the best time to get to the bar?
We have live music nightly from 8:30 to about 11:30 or midnight depending on the night. Considering we are the only place with live music nightly in Los Feliz, I’d say it’s a great time to visit for cocktails.
Describe the average drinkers that you serve?
Such a wide range. All types from different generations. It can range from young hipsters to an older crowd here to enjoy the jazzy environment, and everything in between. When it comes to drinkers, patrons can enjoy martini’s and classics, something more unique to The Dresden with our seasonals, or keep it simple and have a whiskey with a beer back.
Please tell us more about your drinks menu.
When we first updated the cocktail program in 2016, the main focus was to nail the classics considering we are such an old school spot. Aside from that, our “craft program” features recognizable flavors, spirits, and modifiers, for all sorts of drinkers. Whether you’re well-rehearsed in the cocktail game or just getting into it, there’s something for everyone.
What’s your signature drink–or your favorite drink currently on the menu–and why should I order it?
Big Fan of Y Tu Mama Tambien and Death & Taxes. Y Tu Mama is such a bright mezcal and tequila cocktail that’s crisp, with a hint of heat. It’s for agave lovers everywhere. And because I’m indecisive, I love Death & Taxes which is a complex and layered Dry Manhattan and boasts flavors of dark cacao, anise, and a hint of cinnamon.
How much do drinks cost?
Cocktails on the menu are listed between $15-$17 currently.
Is there anything to eat? If so – what’s your favorite dish on the menu?
Our Cacio e Pepe is fantastic as well as our Shrimp Scampi with a creamy parmigiano risotto. You can’t forget about our World Famous Prime Rib either though.
What are the distinguishing features of The Dresden?
Family Owned since 1953 and will continue to be. Live music nightly without a cover. A unique space with a Lounge and Dining Room separate from each other.
What’s that music we hear playing on the The Dresden stereo?
Soul, Motown, classic r&b, jazz, all very much suited for a Lounge.
