Like a sexy STD, El Condor speaks to a seedier and more romantic time along Silver Lake’s Sunset Boulevard strip. The margaritas are strong, the prices reasonable for the neighborhood, and the food is better than one has any right to expect–not to say it’s where we’d recommend going for Mexican food in Los Angeles. One of many cantina-style joints that are scattered across the LA basin, El Condor actually does things right, leaning into its Tijuana/Cabo-style roots and delivering a place you actually want to be, even if you feel a bit dirty about it.

What’s the crowd like?
A little bit seedy, mostly local, much of the crowd seems to know someone who works there and has been coming for a number of years. Still, there a good amount of passersby seem to make their way through the doors, looking for something less “scene-y” than the newer spots along the strip.
What am I drinking?
Margarita—tequila or mezcal—or a beer and a shot.
Is there anything to eat?
Yes. Keep things simple with some guacamole along with the complimentary chips and salsa or go big with fajitas or a burrito. If it’s a Tuesday, you’re ordering tacos. There’s also brunch on Saturdays and Sundays.
When should I get here?
There’s a pretty steady crowd from open till close with the busiest times coming from 8pm till 10pm and on Fridays and Saturdays.
Why am I here?
If you’re looking for a more laid back night filled with margaritas, guacamole, and are up for anything–except putting in a lot of effort–El Condor is a great place to let an evening unfold.
